Neck Lift

A necklift is performed by a plastic surgeon to significantly reduce the appearance of sagging skin under the jaw. It may be performed as an outpatient procedure using local anesthesia with deep sedation, or general anesthesia, and may take from 1 to 11/2 hours. With a minimal-incision necklift, loss of sensation at the incision site is minimized. A necklift is frequently performed in conjunction with a mid-facelift or facial implants to achieve optimal results.

Many patients who complain of facial aging may also notice a loss of tightness and excess fat in the neck region, which can often give them the appearance of being overweight. In these cases, when skin laxity is significant, liposuction of the neck, combined with a neck or face lift, may be necessary to get an optimal result. With neck liposuction, the unwanted fat is gently removed through a small three millimeter incision just below the difficult-to-see mental crease, and creates a youthful look and improved contour.

When skin laxity in the neck is not significant, and the patient only suffers from excess fullness and fat in the submental region, liposuction of the neck can be performed independently as a small procedure to improve chin contour as well as the depth of the neck. Also, along with a neck lift and face lift, liposuction can be combined with the placement of a chin implant. In such cases where patients suffer from a short chin and an inadequate pronouncement of the chin and neck region, liposuction can be performed in the cervical region, or in the neck, at the same time that a chin implant is placed.

Where do I begin?

A consultation with Dr. Daniel Golshani is the first step to learn how a neck lift can improve an aging neck. Dr. Golshani's consultations are designed to fully educate potential patients. Consultations typically include a discussion of your goals, an evaluation of your current signs of aging, the options available to you for a neck lift, the likely outcomes and potential risks and complications associated with the procedure, and the course of treatment that Dr. Golshani recommends for you.
