One of the first areas of the face to age is the cheek, or mid-face area. As we grow older, we begin to lose the fat and muscle tissue volume in the cheek. This results in less prominent cheeks as well as sagging and loose skin folds around the mouth and between the cheek and the nose, also called the nasolabial folds. The area between the lower eyelid and cheek can also become more prominent and create more apparent lower eyelid bags. Full cheeks that are high on the cheekbone give us a more youthful, healthier appearance. Therefore, a loss of tissue volume in the area can make us look older and constantly tired.
What is a Cheek Lift?
A cheek lift, also called a mid-face lift, is a minimally
invasive surgical procedure which repositions the cheek
frame by lifting the sagging fatty tissue over the cheekbone
and removing excess skin to elevate the mid-face area. With
limited, non-visible incisions, the cheek lift can restore
the youthful contours and fullness of your face, reduce
wrinkles and sagging skin in the cheeks, minimize folds at
the side of the mouth and improve the bagginess in the lower
eyelid area.
This surgical procedure may be safely combined with other
facial cosmetic procedures including blepharoplasty (lower
eyelid surgery), face and neck lift, brow lift and cheek
implants. The end result of a cheek lift is a more youthful
appearance in the mid-face area and an overall brightening
and opening of the face.
Where do I begin?
A consultation with Dr. Daniel Golshani is your first step
to learn how a cheek lift can improve the appearance of your
mid-face area. Dr. Golshani's consultations are designed to
educate you about the surgical procedure and will include a
discussion of your goals, the options available to you, the
likely outcomes, any risks or potential complications, and
the prescribed course of treatment most suitable for you.
Progress and Healing
Recovery of the surgical procedure is usually seven to ten
days with a minimal amount of discomfort and temporary
bruising. By keeping your head elevated and applying cold
compresses early on, swelling can be reduced. In addition,
arnica and pineapple may be prescribed in specific cases
along with peri-operative surgical vitamins. Typically,
patients can return to work and social activities within a
week. Strenuous activity is restricted for six weeks.
